Kele Halwa (Nenthrapazham Halwa)

A very tasty sweet dish, made of well ripe plantain & sugar and minimum ghee) !!

Serves: 6 -7

You will need

2 tablespoons ghee

500 g (4 medium size) well ripe plantain (nenthrapazham), cut into cubes or circles

10 teaspoons sugar (or to taste – 9 teaspoons or 11 teaspoon)

2 pinches cardamom powder

1/2 teaspoon extra ghee (to grease steel thali of 7 - inches diameter)

Method

Grease a steel thali with ½ teaspoon ghee and keep aside.

In a wide pan, heat ghee on a medium heat. Add well ripe banana pieces and stir continuously on a low to medium heat for 5 minutes and also mash well.

Add sugar and mix well. Cover with a lid and cook on a low to medium heat for 10 minutes or until well blended / softens.

Open the lid and stir continuously for 5 – 8 minutes until it leaves from the sides of the pan / color changes (light golden color) and forms a ball. Switch off the heat. Sprinkle cardamom powder and mix well.

Transfer the mixture into a greased steel thali and spread it evenly with the help of a flat spatula. Keep aside to cool for 10 minutes and later cut into desired shape and size or serve in dessert cups. Decorate with shallow fried cashew nuts or raisins (optional).
